A group of local tourism focused businesses are taking part in a 12-week mentoring program to further develop their product or service. The Experience Development Mentoring Program started in early April and is led by tourism expert Mark Olsen from consulting firm, EarthCheck, funded by DEAL and Tourism NT.

“The aim of the mentoring program is to identify the unique selling point of each product and how it connects to the East Arnhem and wider Northern Territory brand,” Mark said.

“Each mentoree will work through a 12 week process of business development and message refinement culminating in a sales pitch presentation ready for the trade.”

Businesses joining the program  aim to build the tourism experience in East Arnhem Land and will work on fine tuning their brand and story to create wow moments, develop hero campaigns, authentic cultural experiences and unforgettable holidays with Lirrwi Tourism; Black Diamond Aviation; Banubanu Wilderness Retreat; Arnhem Unlimited; Gapuwiyak Culture & Arts; Walkabout Lodge; East Arnhem Fishing Adventures; East Arnhem Real Estate; Wildcard Luxury Cruises and Fishing Charters and Nhulunbuy Corporation Limited. This mentoring program forms part of an overall tourism industry project, the East Arnhem Land Tourism Development Project, being managed by DEAL and delivered by specialist tourism consultancy firm, Simon McArthur & Associates.

“The role of Simon McArthur and Associates is to review the current state of tourism in the region, and identify the gaps in tourism offer that could be developed,” Simon McArthur said.

“Then we will develop a plan to go after the gaps and create fantastic experiences.

“The benefit of this work will be to help extract more yield from tourism – that is, more spend from each visitor, rather than lots more visitors”.
