After the rains, the regional landscape explodes into life, with animals and birds coming out to enjoy the renewed landscape.
This season is often targeted by keen anglers looking to hook a barra or mangrove jack in the warmer mangrove creeks and estuaries. The water is also calmer for bluewater fishing, with opportunities to catch a range of offshore reef fish including golden snapper, black jewfish, tricky snapper, cod, coral trout and red emperor. Billfishing competitions are typically run between October and March.
In either season, temperatures are up to 5 degrees cooler than Darwin or Cairns.
