Developing East Arnhem Limited (DEAL) is pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Morley as our new independent Chair.
Michael joined the DEAL board in July 2021, and brings a wealth of operational and strategic experience having worked in Australia, the UK and Europe and managed industrial operations throughout Europe, Australia and the US. He has a track record of delivering transformational results by engaging people and diverse stakeholder groups (including both government and communities) and integrating strategy, organisation, operations, finance and analysis. Michael is also a qualified lawyer who has significant M&A experience across a range of industries.
Michael said “I am very excited to be joining the DEAL team and to have the opportunity to build on the strong foundations and excellent work that has been achieved since DEAL’s inception. I believe there are many opportunities for the East Arnhem region to leverage its unique natural assets and incredible Yolŋu culture and heritage to drive economic development and to create an exciting, resilient and sustainable future. With the continuing support of traditional owners and key regional stakeholders, and by leading collaboration across the region, I believe that we will be well placed to harness those opportunities. I look forward to working closely with the DEAL Board, the management team and all stakeholders in building momentum and delivering tangible results in supporting the region’s development. I am also looking forward to spending more time in the region and to meeting with regional stakeholders and businesses as soon as I am able to travel.”
Michael’s appointment follows the departure of our inaugural independent Chair John Cossons in early 2021. John was instrumental in the establishment of DEAL and made significant contributions to our success during the first seven years of our operation. The DEAL Board and team thank John for his efforts and contributions to our organisation and the East Arnhem region during his tenure.
