Establishment of aircraft maintenance base at Gove Airport

DEAL provided investment support to Longreach Aircraft Maintenance in 2020 through our Economic Development Fund, assisting them to establish an onsite aircraft maintenance service at Gove Airport. Their services are available to all air charter companies in Nhulunbuy, reducing the need for these charter companies to travel outside the region in order to undergo aircraft maintenance or servicing, as well as creating new locally based employment. Longreach Aircraft Maintenance has been operating in the Territory for many years and already has a strong working relationship with some existing East Arnhem charter operators. This project contributes to DEAL’s priorities through significantly improving the region’s aviation maintenance capabilities and providing a level of investment certainty for local charter companies. It also diversifies workforce development opportunities through their successful apprenticeship program for Aircraft Maintenance Engineers.
